(Not actually fic, but I like it, so...)

Lion: Does not understand exchange norms. Only the combination of his frankly rather boring id and Luther's betaing have kept him from exchange infamy, but he and Luther have had a fight and now the full extent of his, ah, idiosyncratic characterization is on display.

Fulgrim: His fic must be PERFECT and get ALL THE KUDOS, especially from the Emperor. He is one of the most popular writers in the exchange, but never quite the most popular. Eventually reaches a breaking point and starts writing super iddy porn instead of his previous somewhat iddy but also carefully-crafted longfic masterpieces. Dutifully comments on all of Curze's weird fic. Un-dutifully gushes on all of Ferrus's. Wants to co-write with Ferrus, but his porn is too weird for Ferrus to go for it these days.

Perturabo: Writes unsolicited concrit on his own and other people's gifts. Convinced he is the most underappreciated writer in the exchange. (Does tend to write similar things to Dorn but in smaller fandoms.) Has a bad habit of gaming to match Dorn, writing a reasonable story that's up at deadline, and then replacing it with a version that hits Dorn's DNWs. Has not been banned in spite of this, because in his efforts to troll he tends to write the sort of D/s porn that Dorn secretly really likes, so Dorn skims the DNWs to get to the hot part and then writes a stiff little comment rather than rejecting or complaining to the mod team. Malcador eventually starts handmatching to make sure these two don't match to each other; both are secretly really disappointed. When not trolling Dorn, Perturabo is a very good beta (especially for Magnus, who really needs it).

Jaghatai Khan: Good writer and generally not wanky, but finds the exchange scene rather tiresome and would bow out if it weren't for a couple friends.

Leman Russ: Comod in charge of banning. Does literally no other modding. Does wolfpick on request (most of his brothers are too intimidated to request). He and Magnus have a long history of almost-flaming each other's fic. Magnus is convinced that Russ got the rules of the exchange changed a while back specifically to mess with him.

Rogal Dorn: Too embarrassed to ask for what he really wants (which is D/s porn). Might someday establish a porn-receiving sock.

Konrad Curze: See Lion, except that his id is extremely gorey and disturbing and his beta is Sevatar, who totally eggs him on instead of mitigating the weirdness. Also, he tends to write unrequested poetry. Fulgrim attempted to walk him through writing normal exchange fic and it worked for one year and then they had a public row and Curze reverted to form.

Sanguinius: Extremely sweet and enthusiastic commenter. Takes pinch hits; is probably half the reason the exchange is still running. Has a well-hidden wanky streak, as well as a couple of kinks he's reluctant to admit in namespace.

Ferrus Manus: Technically very skilled but rather boring writer. Fulgrim is his one reliable reader. They used to cowrite occasionally, but Ferrus is genuinely kind of squicked by most of Fulgrim's current output.

Angron: Tends to default for mostly health reasons (sometimes Kharn just does it for him because it's obvious he's not going to remember). Has never actually finished a story on his own; everything is cowritten with Lotara (action!) or Kharn (friendship gen). Surprisingly nice recip when he remembers that the exchange is going on. Does have a tendency to leave nasty flames.

Roboute Guilliman: Another competent if workmanlike writer. Conscientious. Always has a complete, betaed, typo-free story well in advance of the deadline. Not terribly wanky aside from a long-running, mostly one-sided feud with Lorgar. Inexplicably always treats Lion even though Lion is not a rewarding recip. Might eventually take over as mod from Malcador, at which point he institutes sweeping changes and acquires a new fandom feud with Dorn, who liked things the way they were.

Mortarion: Writes the Emperor treats calculated to hit his DNWs in a plausibly deniable fashion. The Emperor has never reacted properly. Actually really likes Curze's fic. Has been lowkey trying to get Magnus banned for years and is really unhappy to end up sharing the new exchange with him; Magnus then shocks him with a beta offer.

Magnus the Red: Always has outrageously ambitious plans; occasionally realizes them, but basically never has a completed story by the deadline. A few years ago exchange rules were edited in a way clearly targeted at him and his fandoms; he blames Russ. Eventually gets banned for a really egregious placeholder (he was totally going to finish it though!) at which point he writes a goodbye-cruel-world-exchange journal entry that freaks all his friends out and reluctantly decamps to Horus's new exchange, even though he genuinely prefers character matching anyway.

Horus Lupercal: Comod for many years. Eventually storms off to create his own exchange with blackjack and hookers chaos gods relationship matching. Half of the exchange scene goes with him and promptly gets banned by the Emperor in his first display of actual (if wanky) modding in many years.

Lorgar: Good writer but his stuff tends to be iddy in a way that isn't quite compatible with the fandom's collective id. Once had a total breakdown because the Emperor rejected his beautiful perfect story for DNW-adjacency, despite Lorgar having written the same kind of thing for him for literally years.

Vulkan: Earnestly tries to give everyone what they want (except Curze; he insta-defaults and claims id mismatch in that case). Takes pinch hits. Is the other half of the reason the exchange has survived so long.

Corvus Corax: Games to match with Vulkan or Ferrus. Has long been fed up with Horus's modding (and spent years leaving grumpy anon comments about it); is overjoyed when Horus flounces and takes Corax's other fandom nemesis Perturabo with him.

Alpharius/Omegon: Share an account. May also share a sock army. Amuse themselves by trying to imitate other participants' styles as perfectly as possible.

Emperor: No longer participates, still officially the head mod. Still gets a ton of treats (some of them perfectly stated to his old likes, others to his equally old DNWs) and generally responds with a stiff "Thank you for writing for me" to both. Has only ever rejected the one story (which Lorgar worked so hard on!). Really pissed off about Horus's new exchange, which admittedly does on the exact same schedule as his.

Malcador: The other comod. Writes only when he can't find someone to take on a pinch hit. Is very sick of the drama and seriously considering committing sockrifice to get out of it. Secretly thinks the Emperor overreacted spectacularly to Lorgar's fic, the Russ-and-Magnus induced rule change, and Horus's new exchange, but he believes that the mod team should prevent an united face to the Internet, so he's not going to admit that in public.

[redacted 1&2]: Banned and committed sockrifice under mysterious circumstances.
